EYP Principal Presents at
ACUI National Conference
EYP Principal Erik Johnson, AIA, and Dr. Timothy Reed from Virginia Commonwealth University presented two educational sessions at the 2007 Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on March 26th. Their seminar, “What’s Hot and What’s Not: College Union Trends” attracted a standing room-only crowd of 150 in an interactive session that expanded upon results of a survey conducted by EYP at the 2006 ACUI Conference. So, what’s hot and what’s not in student unions? Marketplace foodservice (with a mixture of healthy food, national brands, and grab-and-go), exercise rooms, and blended recreation environments (mixing billiards, bowling, games, and food) were examples of trends that are hot; stand-alone video games and traditional dining room foodservice were examples of those that are not. A second presentation entitled, “A Primer on Renovation and Use of Historic Buildings on Campus” attracted a more focused audience, many either planning or currently involved with a renovation.
