EYP Principal Presents at Smart &
Sustainable Campus Conference
On April 19th, Kip Ellis, along with Swarthmore College Professor of Engineering E. Carr Everbach, presented, “The ‘Science’ of Sustainability,” at the 2nd Annual Smart and Sustainable Campus Conference in College Park, MD. Using the Swarthmore Science Center designed by EYP as a case study, Ellis and Everbach discussed numerous aspects of sustainability, including the unique sustainable design features of the Science Center project, how the building is used as a tool in ongoing environmental research, methods of assessment and measurement of data, and the building’s function as both a formal and informal teaching tool that helps visitors and users understand how choices have an impact on the work around us. Sponsored jointly by some of the country’s most prominent college and university and environmental organizations including the EPA and the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the two-day symposium explored smart growth and sustainable practices that serve the economy, community, and the environment.
