EYP Principals Marc Shaw and Eric Kern, along with Richard Warsh, Director of the Office of Facility Planning for the Washington , DC., Department of Mental Health authored the article, “Saint Elizabeth’s Goes Green,” for the June issue of Behavioral Healthcare magazine. The article explored the design, challenges, and solutions associated with Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, currently under construction in Washington, DC. The authors also discussed the incorporation of numerous sustainable design elements, such as a green roof, reuse of existing buildings and sites, and the use of natural light and garden spaces. Additionally, EYP project architect Calvin Rugg contributed a sidebar entitled, “Green Language,” that explained and clarified several terms and phrases associated with green buildings and sustainable design.
