The American Institute of Architects recently elevated EYP Principal and Historic Preservation expert
David Fixler, AIA, LEED AP, to its College of Fellows. This prestigious recognition, awarded annually to members who have made significant individual contributions to the profession and society, is the industry’s highest honor. A skilled architect, preservation strategist, and internationally respected author, lecturer, and advocate, Fixler has more than 26 years of architectural experience, and specializes in the design, preservation, and renewal of Modern Movement buildings. He has guided the restoration and renovation of historically significant projects from the 18th through the 20th centuries, including the present renovations to the United Nations Headquarters. Fixler is national director of the Society of Architectural Historians, a co-chair for the Association for Preservation Technology International's Technical Committee on Modern Heritage, and an active member of the Association for Preservation Technology, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, DOCOMOMO International, and the Boston Society of Architects. He has also lectured and taught design, history, and theory at Columbia University , the University of Pennsylvania , MIT, Wellesley College, Wentworth Institute, and the Boston Architectural Center , been a design juror at RISD and MIT, as well as conceived, organized, and participated in numerous conferences on a wide range of architecture and preservation topics. Fixler will be honored as the newest member of the College of Fellows at a May 16th ceremony in Boston, during the 2008 AIA National Convention.
