Principal and Historic Preservation Expert David Fixler, FAIA, LEED AP, recently authored the article, “Preserving Modern Architecture in the Postmodern World,” for volume 15 of AIArchitect, the official publication of the American Institute of Architects. The thought-provoking article explores a variety of topics, including a history and background on Modern architecture, reasons for preserving the vast number of Modern buildings in existence all over the world, and how Modernism fits in with the past, present, and future. Additionally, Fixler discusses the application of contemporary principles to the preservation of Modern buildings, and how preservation can and should serve as an activist force for change.
