This 22,442-sf focal point of the University of Iowa, the 1840 old capitol, houses various administrative offices, space for conferences, events, lectures and a university museum. EYP conducted a two-phase renovation /restoration project. The first repaired the damage caused in a November 2001 fire and included the restoration of the cupola and exterior dome, west portico, new fire suppression systems, and utility system upgrades. The second phase addressed exterior masonry, window restoration and the restoration of existing trim, as well as, the renovation and restoration of the interior spaces including enhanced lighting and the introduction of an interpretive Greek Revival color scheme. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. EYP completed this project in conjunction with OPN Architects, Inc.
