Satellite and Operations Facility
The design for NOAA's new operations and satellite facility expresses the agency's mission as Earth's caretaker - observing, cataloguing, and protecting the environment. A slender four-story tower with an antenna houses the 50,000-sf satellite operations center, while a 140,000-sf single-floor office facility is built into the natural site contours and becomes indistinguishable from the landscape. The office space features an underfloor thermal dispersion HVAC system. The design targets a minimum silver-level LEED certification and was selected by the 2002 GSA Design Awards jury for a Citation in Design Excellence. EYP designed the facility's engineering systems and prepared the project for LEED certification in contribution to a joint venture with Morphosis.
