The Maritime College of the State University of New York New York, NY
New Classroom Building
The program for the classroom building was developed through intense discussions with the Administration of the College. The goal of the program development effort was to create a space allocation program that would balance the needs of the College with the constraints of the funding available. Three sample programs, with varying room counts and mix were developed for review. The classroom component is intended to serve the expanding Marine Business and Marine Law programs, while taking pressure off the smaller classrooms currently housed in Fort Schuyler. The offices will be for both full-time and adjunct faculty.
At present, no one room on campus can accommodate an entire academic class. All three program options satisfy that need through the inclusion of a 350-seat auditorium, which the college regards as an essential part of the new building. This room, with its adjacent gathering space will also allow the College to better host outside functions such as conferences. The different program mixes demonstrate different levels of growth for the college.
