The Washington State Legislative Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as on the Washington State Register. The 287-foot-high dome is the fourth tallest all-masonry dome in the world. The building required a sensitive renovation to preserve this structure for future generations and update it for current users. EYP was invited to join a team of specialists from around the nation and given responsibility for the interior renovations, involving all architecture, interior design, reprogramming of spaces, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, plumbing engineering, and fire alarm and protection services. As the lead preservation architect, it was EYP’s responsibility to ensure that all of the work in the project was in conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s standards for rehabilitation of historic properties.
