Our challenge was to maintain and enhance the existing architectural character of this 1965 Harrison and Abramovitz design while creating a new reading room and administrative boardroom. Renovation focused on increasing building efficiency while artfully integrating code upgrades, new technology, and building systems into an inflexible reinforced-concrete structure. The project has been cited by Harvard, the Cambridge Historical Commission, and DOCOMOMO International for contributing to the dialogue on sustaining the legacy of mid-century modernism.
