EYP is planning and designing a 150,000-sf unified science teaching and research facility that embodies the latest trends and principles of Project Kaleidoscope. The project will accommodate the traditional science disciplines as well as emerging programs that promote cross-disciplinary exploration. The facility will be a resource for the entire northeastern Pennsylvania region.
The Unified Science Facility will create a science green adjacent to the existing Catlin House. While modern in design, the new structure will respect the style and scale of the older areas of the campus and connect the sciences more directly to campus life. The project will unite Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering by renovating and adding to existing science spaces. Through strategic adjacencies and clusters of faculty offices, classrooms, laboratories, and study/lounges, the design will foster effective intellectual collisions across disciplines. A connecting concourse that leads to a new atrium will form the heart of the facility, encouraging interaction among the sciences and linking them with the Campus Commons and the DeNaples Center and Green.
