"The building has begun to act on the culture of science and has facilitated contact not only between the sciences, but between the sciences and the arts and humanities." This renovation and expansion created a unified science complex that reflects both the rich history of the college and its place as one of the leading undergraduate science programs in the country. A 40,000-sf addition connects the grouping of four buildings that house the sciences and creates a four-story atrium between the existing and new construction. The dramatic architectural shapes and natural light of the atrium make it a destination of choice for the entire campus community. In the existing building, 176,000 square feet were renovated, including mechanical and electrical systems.
